RALEIGH, N.C. -- A South Raleigh woman is facing cruelty to animals charges. Authorities say a total of 15 dogs and cats were found either dead or starving inside her home and a rented apartment.

  • 15 dogs and cats were found either starving inside a woman's home or rented apartment.
  • Bridgette Baldwin, 24, has been arrested.
  • Baldwin's bond was set at $45,000

Garner Police say 24-year-old Brigette Baldwin was renting out an apartment at the Lenoxplace Apartments at Garner Station.

Assistant District Attorney Kristen Peebles says Baldwin rented an apartment in Garner while her home in south Raleigh was getting repaired. The Wake County Sheriff's Office found dead and emaciated animals in that apartment when serving an eviction notice.

They then went to her home on Chelsea Drive in Raleigh to find more dead and starving animals.

Peebles says there were eight cats, all of whom died. There were also seven dogs, all of whom were alive, but malnourished.

Neighbors are reacting to the disturbing news.

"That hurts me because I am an animal lover," said Denise Roey, who lives at Lenoxplace Apartments, "I would take in a dog or a cat in a heartbeat. I didn't know nothing about that."

Baldwin's bond was set at $45,000. She will reappear in court on December 6.
