UNION COUNTY, N.C. -- The mother of a one-year-old boy that had been swept away by floodwaters during Hurricane Florence is charged in connection to his death.

The Union County Sheriff's Office says she drove around a barricade on NC Highway 218 and into flood waters in September and that her son, Kaiden Lee-Welch, fell out of her arms as they tried to escape.
