NORTH CAROLINA – Governor Roy Cooper has called for a special session for hurricane relief.

  • Gov. Cooper has called for a special session to fund Hurricane Florence relief efforts.
  • Costs to recover from florence are estimated in the billions of dollars.
  • Federal funds to help have already been approved.

While numbers for repairs across eastern North Carolina are preliminary, they’ve already reached into the billions.

In a statement Thursday Cooper said, “Now is the time to come together and begin the work of rebuilding our communities and making families whole.”

Federal aid has already been approved for damaged areas by President Trump and FEMA.

The special session is expected to take place on Oct. 9.
