CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Hundreds of people are taking big steps to honor victims ahead of the anniversary of Sept. 11.

  • Participants climbed a total of 110 floors
  • The memorial event was at the Duke Energy Center
  • Proceeds benefit the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation

The stair climb at the Duke Energy Center in uptown Charlotte is meant to honor fallen first responders who died that day.

“It's just a chance to remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for us,” Raleigh firefighter Kamilah Webb said.

Participants climbed a total of 110 floors which is equal to the height of each World Trade Center Tower.

343 firefighters, 60 law enforcement personnel and 10 EMS personnel died as a result of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Proceeds benefit the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.
