GREENSBORO, N.C.- A center that helps families in need is expanding in Guilford County.

  • They're opening a second location at the Salvation Army Center of Hope on 1311 Eugene Street in Greensboro
  • The centers offer child care services for parents who are taking resource classes such as GED courses along with job and computer training
  • The plan is to have 'Family Success Center 2' open by the end of the year

The United Way cites a growing awareness about the program along with a poverty rate that's well above the national average as reason for expansion. They're opening a second location at the Salvation Army Center of Hope on 1311 Eugene Street in Greensboro.

Sarah Glover, a Family Success Center manager with the United Way, says it's an area that demands more help than other zip codes in Guilford County.

"It's a zip code that has a lot of, statistically a lot of struggles. A lot of people that are seeking services around Greensboro may live in this zip code already and are going around to different places so we wanted to come to where many of the people are," Glover said.

The centers offer child care services for parents who are taking resource classes such as GED courses along with job and computer training. They will also offer music courses for children at their new location and will have licensed clinical social workers to help with mental health awareness.

"They need our help. They need us to be here for them, to support them, to provide them with the supportive service that they need," executive director of the Salvation Army Center of Hope Jackie Lucas said.

The plan is to have Family Success Center 2 open by the end of the year.
