NORTH CAROLINA -- A recent poll shows a record-low number of Americans describe themselves as extremely proud of their country.

The Gallup poll shows patriotism is the lowest it has been in nearly 20 years.

Only 47 percent of those polled saying they are “extremely proud” to be an American.   

The results are consistent with party lines.

Democrats and independents are less likely to say they're extremely proud, while Republicans say they are more proud than they’ve been in the last 5 years.
