ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. -- More details have been unveiled about a federal investigation into a dog fighting ring with ties to Rowan County.

  • Warrants detail how a western Michigan dog fighting ring has NC ties.
  • A Salisbury man, Kelo McCain, bred and sold pit bull terrier-type dogs. 
  • No one has been arrested following the search. 

According to federal warrants, officials began investigating a dog fighting ring out of western Michigan in March of last year.

Phone records showed a Salisbury resident, named Kelo McCain, was breeding and selling pit bull terrier-type dogs, involved in dog fighting.

On June 6, federal agents searched two homes in Salisbury on Short and Kenly streets. 

About 29 dogs were found at both homes on heavy chains, bleeding and in bad condition. Also found was dog medicine, syringes, guns, bite and break sticks.

At this time, no one has been arrested following the search.
