CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The man who intentionally set fire to the Woodscape Apartments complex in east Charlotte last summer will spend several years in prison before being deported.
- Jesus Lopez faces 32 counts of arson
- He is an undocumented immigrant
- More than 100 people lost their homes
21-year-old Jesus Lopez plead guilty Tuesday afternoon to 32 counts of first-degree arson and was sentenced to four to six years in prison.
Lopez is also an undocumented immigrant, so after he finishes this sentence, he will be deported.
In court Monday, Lopez's attorney said the 21 year old has been living in Charlotte for most of his life and doesn't have a connection to Mexico.
The defense says Lopez is sorry for setting the fire saying it was a mistake. The fire left 130 people homeless.
