CHARLOTTE – The body found behind a west Charlotte church Friday morning has been identified as a missing woman from Norfolk.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say the woman has been positively identified as 19-year-old Ashanti Billie, who had been missing since Sept. 18. We are told Billie was a student in the Norfolk area and did not show up for class or report to work. Her cell phone was found inside of a dumpster and her car was located days later.

Police were called to the East Stonewall A.M.E. Church in the 1700 block of Griers Grove Road around 10:30 a.m. Friday after a lawn maintenance worker found the body. The church is located about one mile off Interstate 85.

Neighbors say they do not know what could have happened to Billie. They also say the area is known for having problems.

Martin Culbreth, Special Agent in Charge of the Norfulk Division of the FBI say the mission now is to bring justice for Billie.

"We will be relentless in our efforts to find who did this to her. We will not rest until the person who robbed Ashanti of her life, her promise and future is held fully accountable under the law," Culbreth said.

This is an ongoing investigation with FBI Norfolk, Virginia Beach Police Department, NCIS, FBI Charlotte and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (704) 334-1600.
