WEDDINGTON, N.C. - A 9-year-old German Shepherd named Gabriel continues to recover, after his owner says a pack of coyotes attacked him outside of their Weddington home last month.

After hearing his cries for help, Debbie Rucker found Gabriel mangled and torn up - his back was ripped open in multiple areas.

She says neighbors hear and see coyotes all the time, and she wants something to be done to prevent future attacks.

"If they would go after a 92 pound shepherd with big teeth, four legs, they would go after a young child."

His bite marks have healed, but Gabriel’s front legs are still in braces, he hyperextended them trying to escape the coyotes.

He has an appointment Monday to see an orthopedist vet.
