RALEIGH, N.C. -- Just in time for the holidays, more than 100 talented children are joining the entire company of our state's premiere ballet, alongside a live symphony for a grand holiday performance. Carolina Ballet's The Nutcracker, tells the classic magical tale through dance, music, and magic.

  • Caroline Ballet's The Nutcracker runs through December 30
  • It will be performed in three locations: Chapel Hill, Raleigh, and Durham
  • Call 919-719-0900 or visit the Carolina Ballet’s website for more information.

Dancer Amanda Gerhardt and co-artistic director Zalman Raffael joined Spectrum News anchor Caroline Blair for a look at the massive performance that incorporates the ballet’s entire company and more than 100 area kids.

The Nutcracker is one of the most widely-attended ballets in history, with each performance unique. But for the Carolina Ballet it’s not just the size of the cast but rather the magic on stage that is truly setting it apart.

World-renowned magician Rick Thomas is joining the symphony and ballet, helping to create what’s called "enchanting illusions" that help the dancers and performers levitate, disappear, and reappear before the audience’s eyes.

Tickets are affordable, but guests can also receive $15 off by donating five canned goods or other non-perishable food items on December 21. Those goods will help Helping Hand Mission in the Triangle.

The Nutcracker runs at UNC Memorial Hall in Chapel Hill December 1 and 2 and then heads to Memorial Auditorium in Raleigh for a run December 14- 23, and wraps up at the DPAC December 29 & 30. Call 919-719-0900 or visit the Carolina Ballet’s website for more information.
