CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Started as a way for friends to get together and share in local food, fellowship, and fun, the Salt & Smoke festival has grown to different cities across the country. But the sixth annual event is keeping its good old fashioned feel, staying close to its roots with a back-yard barbecue featuring some of the best southern food around.

The man behind the magic, Chef Kevin Callaghan, the owner and head chef of Acme Food & Beverage Co., sat down with Spectrum News anchor Caroline Blair for a look at his year’s event. In addition to a local whole hog, the afternoon and evening of fun will offer an oyster roast, local drinks and a number of bands. But it’s more than just the local food that makes the festival feel so intimate. Where it’s held, Rock Quarry Farm in Chapel Hill, makes it seem like you’re gathering for a marshmallow roast with dear friends.

As of Thursday morning, tickets were still available for the festival, but they were going fast. To snag your seat to the fun, visit the Salt & Smoke festival’s Facebook or website.
