ORLANDO, Fla. — The Lake Highland Prep girls' lacrosse team is one of the best programs in the state.
The Highlanders have played in the last five state championship games and won two titles.
The key to maintaining the dynasty is having young players step up and make plays.
Giselle Jaskiewicz is just a freshman midfielder for Lake Highland Prep.
But she plays like a veteran.
Jaskiewicz has been playing varsity lacrosse since the seventh grade. This is her breakout season, through just nine games she has 23 goals, which leads the team.
“It was defiantly hard from playing club to playing the best competition in the state,” said Jaskiewicz on the transition to playing varsity lacrosse. “So, it was hard, but it was defiantly a good adjustment.”
It is not the personal accolades that drive Jaskiewicz.
During her first two seasons, the Highlanders have lost in the state championship each year.
In 2023, Jaskiewicz did not play in the game after breaking her arm before their playoff run.
“The only thing I could do is come to practice and watch and I just tried to get as much out of it as I could,” said Jaskiewicz.
Jaskiewicz came back better than ever.
This past month, she was selected to represent the state of Florida at the American Select Tournament in July.
There’s just one thing left for Jaskiewicz to do, that’s bring another state championship to the Lake Highland campus.
