The Chinese crested is included in the toy group and was recognized by the AKC in 1991 and have become a favorite of people who appreciate their unique combination of characteristics. From their playful personality to their wild hair, the Chinese crested is a lively, affectionate, sweet companion that makes you smile without even trying.
They come in two varieties, without body fur, the hairless and with body fur, the powder puff with a silky soft coat. Victor Helu is a big fan of these little dogs and shares what he loves about the breed.
"They are a lot of fun, they are little clowns. They love to entertain. They are feisty energetic and intelligent and they know how to get into mischief if you give them the opportunity," said Helu.
Whether it’s sunscreen in the summer or a sweater in the winter, it is important to take into account that the hairless body of a Chinese crested does require protection against the elements. These dogs also can suffer from skin and dental issues but these problems can be managed with proper home care and regular vet visits.
Never choose a breed based on looks, but on your lifestyle and their personality.
