JEFFERSON COUNTY, Mo.—The FBI is now joining the investigation into Sunday's shooting and homicide in Jefferson County. Officials say its investigation has led to Arkansas after officers shot an armed man wearing body armor in Crystal City. There also is an active homicide investigation because a woman's body was found in the vehicle.
Police say they responded to a call for shots fired in Festus Sunday. While trying to pull the vehicle over, officials say the driver took and eventually hit a concrete barrier on Highway 67 near the Dollar General in Crystal City.
"Officers then were confronted by the subject, who wore body armor and displayed multiple weapons," said Crystal City Police Chief Chad Helms.
The armed suspect was shot multiple times and taken to a nearby hospital.
Police say after the shooting, they found a woman’s body in the vehicle.
Police believe that pair came from out of state, according to Jefferson County sheriff Dave Marshak.
