HONOLULU — The City and County of Honolulu’s Department of Design and Construction announced the Frank F. Fasi Municipal Building will undergo a significant mechanical upgrade, requiring intermittent lane closures to facilitate safe crane operations.
The project involves replacing the air conditioning air handlers on the 16th floor of the Fasi Municipal Building with the energy-efficient models. This will enhance HVAC performance and provide improved temperature and humidity control, according to a news release.
The upgraded air handlers will also support the City’s climate goals by reducing energy consumption and electricity costs.
Crews will use the largest crane in the state of Hawaii to transport heavy mechanical equipment for the air handler installation to and from the 16th-floor mechanical penthouse, with operations taking place along South King Street.
Crane setup will begin on the night of Wednesday, Oct. 2. This will avoid conflicts with the upcoming Children and Youth Day event at the Civic Center Grounds on Sunday, Oct. 2.
Work will take place from Oct. 5 to Nov. 8.
To allow for the work, intermittent lane closures will be in effect, especially during late evenings, nights and early mornings.
