ST. LOUIS—  The process of gathering public feedback on how to spend the city of St. Louis’ $250 million share of proceeds from the settlement with the NFL has reached a new voting stage.

The Board of Aldermen opened a new online portal Friday for the public to vote on 20 ideas previously submitted for the public’s review since last fall.

More than 700 ideas were winnowed down to 20 for the next phase, which will be open for voting until Feb. 2.

Each voter will have ten votes at their disposal and can spread them across multiple ideas.

City officials have said they’re interested in using some proceeds to launch a municipal endowment fund that would have a generational, ongoing impact. That idea is not one of the 20 options available in the current voting round. A spokesperson for Board President Megan Green said the endowment idea will be studied and discussed at a future aldermanic Meeting of the Whole this spring.

Among the ideas up for a vote:

  • Funding public school construction

  • Traffic calming and pedestrian-friendly street design

  • North-South Metrolink expansion

  • A city redevelopment loan fund

  • Water main replacement

  • Subsidized child care

  • Increases in city employee pay

According to the Board of Aldermen, the ideas were chosen “based on their their compatibility with the top priority challenges, aldermanic interest, feasibility, and public support.”
