CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Ballantyne's Backyard is rolling out new events as construction on Ballantyne Reimagined continues.

Ballantyne's Backyard is a 100-acre community space that opened in 2021. The owners, Northwood Office, have started construction on turning the land, once a golf course, into a 3,500 person outdoor amphitheater, stream park and entertainment district with shops, dining and residential units.

What You Need To Know

  • Some construction on Ballantyne Reimagined is behind because of supply shortage issues
  • Much of Ballantyne Reimagined is still scheduled to open to the public by 2024
  • 2022 events at Ballantyne's Backyard supported more than 350 small businesses and helped raise more than $352,000 for local nonprofits

Northwood Office's public relations team says some of the construction on these structures has been delayed because of supply shortage issues, but much of Ballantyne Reimagined is still scheduled to be complete and open to the public by 2024.

Haily Rorie, the director of community relations for Northwood Office, says this space will be used to build community in the South Charlotte region.

"There's so much more to come and it's just exciting to be able to provide that for the community," Rorie said. "Ballentyne is already known as this incredible place to live and work, but we really want it to be a destination."

In the meantime, the land is being used for community events like open air markets, blood drives, summer festivals and fundraisers. According to the Ballantyne's Backyard event of the year report, it helped raise more than the $352,000 to go to local nonprofits and support more than 350 small businesses.

Ballantyne's Backyard's final event of 2022 was the Carolina Holiday Light Spectacular, an event they did there for the first time. Rorie says the over one million lights started going up in October to prepare for the mid-December launch.

"This is so different than anything we've ever done in Ballantyne, but it's also something new to the South Charlotte region," Rorie said.

Nearly 35,000 people showed up to the Carolina Holiday Light Spectacular. Rorie says events like this one are building momentum towards Ballantyne Reimagined.
