VESTAL, N.Y. -- Broome County honors a local company for their help after major flooding hit the region.
County Executive Jason Garnar honored Taylor Garbage Service Friday for their service in July, when multiple areas flooded after heavy storms.
Vestal was one of the hardest hit with almost 40 homes impacted. The county declared a state of emergency.
During that time, Taylor Garbage placed dumpsters around the area for residents to throw away damaged items.
They also transported the debris, repeatedly, to the landfill.
Garnar presented the owners with a plaque and thanked them for their service, but the owners say it was only right that they lend a hand.
"We've been through this scenario a couple times in the Vestal area," said Patricia Ostrander, Taylor Garbage Servive owner. "We understand the need and we understand the devastation it causes to people's lives. As a local business owner, we feel the need to help those people out when the time arises. It's a small token of we can give back to the community when it's need."
Taylor Garbage Service says they would like for people to stay in the community, so anything they can do to help, they will.
