AUSTIN, texas -- It's a sizzler of a forecast:  for the first time in four years, Central Texas temps could rise above 105 before August, typically the hottest month of the year, arrives.

The forecast shows highs as hot as 106 possible during the first half of the upcoming weekend. To put that into perspective, Austin only peaked at 105 degrees at the hottest during the last two summers and only made it up to 104 in 2014.

By the numbers, it's the 4th hottest July so far on record (since 1897) with an average temperature of 88.5 degrees, barely beating out last year's reading of 88.6.

So far, it's the 7th warmest summer on record with an average temp of 86 degrees in metro Austin.

And, as we've been reporting, it's been the hottest year on record by a full degree and there's no major relief in sight.

In the above video, Chief Meteorologist Burton Fitzsimmons shows us the numbers and has a look at the forecast for the first days of August, which actually holds a bit of hope.
