The former Fort Drum soldier who stole more than $45,000 from accounts that were meant to help his family is back in jail.

Prosecutors say Brandon Hinman has failed to honor the terms of his probation numerous times. They say he also admitted to using cocaine and opioids in the last two months.

Hinman still owes more than $32,000 in restitution.

His wife Jenna passed away shortly after giving birth to twins, following a battle with a rare form of cancer. During that time, Hinman forged his father-in-law's name on checks and stole money set aside for his wife and daughters. Prosecutors say he used the money to buy drugs.

He was originally sentenced to six months in jail.

Hinman is due back in court next week.
