ONEIDA, N.Y. -- Helicopter, horses and K-9 unit demonstrations aren't seen every day, but they were seen at the New York State Police Troop D headquarters in Oneida for an open house Saturday.

The event was part of a centennial celebration. The Division of State Police was established 100 years ago.

Different tours and demonstrations took place throughout the day.

"I liked a lot of the history stuff, a lot of the old pictures and things that they had and the old equipment that they used to use, and all the cars over here," said Sherril resident John Lesher. "I think it's a great idea because there has been a lot of stress and the troopers need to have more people see what they do so they can appreciate what they do."

The agency was formed on April 11, 1917.
