SAN ANTONIO - The San Antonio Water System says it's in the final phases of development plans for the Vista Ridge pipeline project.

SAWS says it finished the financial paperwork and is ready to move on to construction.

The new project would provide more than 16 billion gallons of water a year to the city from a water well field in Burleson County.

Not everyone is excited about it.  Landowners living near the pipeline don't want it pulling water from under their land.

SAWS says it's working with those people to accommodate their needs.

"Having a regional water project like this in central Texas is something very new to this area. But considering we're going to have millions of people moving here within the next 20-30 years, we need to be ready for that to happen," Anne Hayden, SAWS spokesperson.

The entire Vista Ridge project is scheduled for completion in 2020.
