BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Remaining First Niagara Bank customers will see the results of the KeyBank merger this weekend.
The bank began its transition Monday and says it will be complete by next Monday.
The upstate regional executive for KeyBank, Gary Quenneville, says they're working to make the change as seamless as possible and have eliminated the need to switch routing numbers, account numbers, pin numbers, credit or debit cards and checks. Those will remain valid until they expire.
Some ATMs will temporarily be unavailable and branches close early Friday, but inconveniences should be minimal.
"Online banking is still available until 6 p.m. this evening. At such time that will become unavailable and will be down throughout the weekend as we convert the accounts,” said Quenneville.
While they've taken precautions, officials also say that know mistakes can happen and will add an extra 300 call staff representatives in case calls flood in over the weekend.
That's music to the ears of KeyBank customer Evie Pecoraro, who says she’s grown used to the bank's high level of service.
"I'll tell you something, I have been with KeyBank for a few years now. Customer service has been great, my savings has been great. I wouldn't go anywhere else believe me,” said Pecoraro.
While many customers say they're not concerned with the switching of accounts, some like George Gavidia and Linda Wadsworth say they do have their doubts about the merger itself.
"I'm just worried about maybe you know rise in costs and fees, depending on how many accounts they may have,” said Gavidia.
"I don't think it will impact the service I get here at KeyBank, but I am not generally in favor of mergers because I feel competition is good for all of us,” said Wadsworth.
