Glendale residents who have been trying for years to get their own zip code, are not giving up that fight.
Glendale shares its 11385 zip code with nearby Ridgewood. Residents and community leaders say without its own zip code, Glendale is deprived of its identity. And there are bigger problems too they say. It causes confusion for people who want to visit the neighborhood because GPS devices can't locate addresses. It also has caused a delay in mail service and a delay in responding to emergencies. Congresswoman Grace Meng is again trying to get Congress to pass her bill that would require the United States Postal Service to designate a zip code for Glendale.
"We want people to be able to visit Glendale when they want to. But we also need our constituents to be taken care of and if they are sick or if they are waiting for medication and they can't get their products then that is a real health issue,"said Meng.
Meng first introduced this bill in 2014 and again last year. It is now pending before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committees. We are still waiting for a response from USPS.
