COLUMBUS COUNTY -- An unlicensed reptile retail business was shut down in Columbus County on Monday.
Columbus County sheriff's deputies say an internet-based business was selling a variety of snakes and other reptiles.
The owners shut down the business so they can get in compliance with local and state ordinances.
Animal control officials say the owners told them they were not aware of the ordinance that forbids the selling or trading of any wild or exotic animal.
The animals were all kept in clean enclosures and in good health.
Two of the reptiles were released to alligator adventure which is an approved business to house reptiles.
