PFLUGERVILLE, Texas -- Authorities are investigating after police discovered a child and a woman locked inside of a storage unit with a drug paraphernalia and an assault rifle last Thursday morning.
Police responded to a 911 call regarding a boy sleeping in a storage unit in the 15000 block of Foothill Farms Loop. The caller said the child smelled like urine and was holding an assault rifle.
When authorities arrived, they found a strong odor of ammonia coming from a locked storage until. The maintenance department of the apartment complex unlocked the unit, and inside police say they found a woman, identified as Carissa Chancey, 36, and the 7-year-old boy lying on the floor with a black assault rifle leaning against the wall.

The storage room smelled of urine and there were multiple rats roaming around inside, according to a police affidavit.
During their investgation, police said they located a plastic bag containing marijuana and two improvised marijuana pipes. Several syringes were also found, including one that contained methamphetamine.
Officers said the storage room was about 3 feet by 12 feet and had no ventilation. It was approximately 90 degrees inside when the room was opened, according to the affidavit.
There was no food or water inside the room and the boy said he had not eaten in over a day.
Police said the boy was dirty when he was found, had no shoes, and the clothes he was wearing were dirty and torn.

The child was taken to North Austin Medical Center for treatment.
Chancey is charged with abandoning or endangering a child and possession of a controlled substance.
