SAN ANTONIO -- Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff is looking into recent inmate suicides.
There have been 4 suicides inside the County jail within the past month.
Judge Wolff believes efforts to aid mental health and safety have been effective and conducted appropriately.
But some inmates have spent years behind bars before going to trial.
He plans to work with the District Attorney's office and the courts to ensure a faster path to trials.
The most recent inmate who committed suicide had been in jail for three years.
"I pulled the records on it. It was delay after delay," said Wolff. "There were competency hearings, it was just going on and on. Whether you're guilty or not guilty, we don't know that, he hadn't got to trial yet, but to sit there for three years waiting to see what's going to happen to you, you can imagine the mental stress that's on you."
That particular inmate was booked back in September 2013.
He was facing numerous charges including Aggravated Assault Against a Public Servant.
