BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Local attorney and an international golf legend are pushing a plan to redesign two of Buffalo's public golf courses.
Williamsville attorney Kevin Gaughan says he met with retired golf champion Jack Nicklaus in Florida.
They've created a $40 million proposal to turn the 18-hole course at Delaware Park into one of the country's top golf destinations.
Nicklaus Design is considered by many experts to be the top course design firm in the world.
Their plan also involves moving the South Park links to a parcel of land on Hopkins Street.
Gaughan says that would allow them build a tree museum from Frederick Law Olmsted's original park designs.
He says the plan would be funded entirely through financing and community donations at no cost to taxpayers.
The next step is to present their proposal to the Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy Board.
"To redesign, I think it's a good idea, I think it would be great," Lackawanna resident David Ristau said. "For ideas for the redesign, I think there's too many straight shots, I'd like to see something more intricate, something that would be more of a challenge for us."
Gaughan and Nicklaus also want to design and build a green space education center.
The facility would teach and employ inner city students in parks restoration and nature conservation work.
