CHARLOTTE -- The Mecklenburg County EMS Agency, or MEDIC, is asking all businesses and organizations who purchased an AED machine, get it registered. They say there are more than 300 registered in the county, but fear many more aren't.
MEDIC says if the AED is registered, a 911 responder can tell a caller exactly where it is in the building, in case of an emergency. Knowing where the AED is placed can save precious time.
"Every minute that goes by that they don't receive CPR, their chances of survival decrease by 10%,” said Lester Oliva, with MEDIC Public Relations. “Add the CPR, add the AED their chances double, sometimes triple."
MEDIC says you should also perform regular maintenance checks and check the battery expiration date to make sure the AED is fully functional if ever needed. For more information or to register an AED with MEDIC in Mecklenburg County, visit here.
