A 55-year-old man has been sentenced to 23 years to life in prison in connection with a 1991 murder in Brooklyn.
Derrick Lloyd was convicted in March of second-degree murder for shooting a man in the face outside a New Year's Eve party in East Flatbush.
Prosecutors say Lloyd left a party on Farragut Avenue near East 57th Street to look for a man they say was intoxicated.
According to prosecutors, he approached a group of people asking where the man was.
Investigators then say Lloyd got into an argument with 22-year-old William Smith, pulled out a gun and fatally shot Smith.
Lloyd was arrested in Alabama in 2007 and found guilty in 2011, but a judge overturned the conviction on appeal and ordered a new trial.
