The city's sanitation department says some new trash bins in downtown flushing have to be removed.

On Friday, members Greater Flushing Chamber of Commerce announced that they had teamed up with a private garbage removal company to add trash bins at Prince Street and 37th Avenue.

Members of the Chamber said the location was being neglected by the Department of Sanitation, accusations the agency denied.

Now, the DSNY has ordered the Chamber to remove the trash bins, telling NY1 in a statement:

"As far as Sanitation is aware, the Department of Transportation has not authorized the placement of these trash containers."

After a meeting, Monday, the Chamber's president said they'd come "away with a personal commitment from Ignazio Terranova, representing the Commissioner of Sanitation, to discuss a way to place city trash receptacles on the Prince Street Triangle this week."

Representatives from the Chamber say they only installed the private trash bins because local business owners were being fined for trash accumulating at the intersection and in front of their stores.
