Governor Cuomo issued an amendment to an executive order giving Attorney General Eric Schneiderman the authority to investigate the police involved shooting that killed Edson Thevenin.

Thevenin was killed on April 17 in Troy.

Police said they pulled Thevenin over because they believed he was driving drunk.

They said he drove away, and when police caught up with him, Thevinin pinned Sergeant Randy French between two cars.

That's when French shot Thevenin eight times, killing him.

French was cleared by a grand jury for his involvement. However, Thevenin's family said they believe the whole process was rushed and are still asking questions as to what led to the shooting.

This week, Attorney General Schneiderman sued Rensselaer County District Attorney Joel Abelove over the case.

According to an executive order issued by Cuomo last year, Schneiderman has the authority to investigate all deaths at the hands of law enforcement.

Cuomo's new order released Saturday is an amendment to that original order, and mentions the Thevenin case by name.
