WILMINGTON-Prosecutors will seek the death penalty for a man accused of killing his girlfriend and their 20-month-old daughter with a machete outside a Wilmington apartment last year.

New Hanover County District Attorney Ben David announced in court Wednesday that his office hopes to have 35-year-old Darrell Gerard Taylor face capital punishment in connection with the Sept. 27 attack that left two dead and two others severely injured.

Taylor was indicted April 4 on two counts of first-degree murder, one count of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, in addition to numerous other charges.

Authorities say Taylor killed 35-year-old YaWanda Felicia Doe and their daughter, Dariya Jalice Doe-Taylor. Their 3-year-old son, Dea'yion Lamont Doe-Taylor, and 47-year-old neighbor Michelle Dukes were injured.
