MINOA, N.Y.-- Some of the smallest members of the community raised big money to help fight heart disease and childhood obesity.

Students at Minoa Elementary School recently took part in the Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser. On Wednesday, the American Heart Association visited to thank them for raising more than $10,000 for the cause. The school's top three fundraisers were also given medals.

But organizers say the event is just as much about education. "The kids go home, they're talking about physical education, they're talking about exercising, they're talking to their parents about heart health" said Meg Gibbons, American Heart Association Youth Market Director.

This was the fourth year Minoa Elementary took part in the Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser.
