HAMBURG, N.Y. -- The Hamburg Fairgrounds is kicking off its 11th annual Festival of Lights with a ice carving competition.
Starting 5 p.m. Friday, teams from around the world will have 32 hours to carve 3 tons of ice.
"The sculptures that people are going to see have never been done in Western New York before," said Martin Biniasz, the manager of special events at the fairgrounds. "These aren't small little ice carvings. These are massive 8 to 12 foot giant sculptures".
People will be able to view the sculptures through the entire Festival of Lights, which starts this weekend and runs through Christmas.
