Members of a local Muslim volunteer group donated a meat freezer and pounds of Halal meat to Unity House in Troy.

The Capital Region Muslim Soup Kitchen Project organized a food drive at Duniya supermarket during Ramadan last month.

As a result of the drive Duniya Supermarket was able to donate 115 pounds of Halal meat that follows Islamic law and is not a forbidden cut or animal such as pork.

The director of community resources for Unity House says this donation allows them to serve other cultural and religious food needs.

"Receiving any donation is vitally important to our programming, but receiving donations like this, not where we are just feeding people but we're paying attention to the cultural revelency of our community is more than we can ask for," said Christine Nealon.

The Capital Region Muslim Soup Kitchen project also donated clothes to Unity House.
