AAA says as temperatures rise so does highway travel, and that means more accidents.

AAA says as people get out to enjoy the warmer weather, they're more likely to get hit by a car. A recent report shows 20 percent of all pedestrian deaths in Texas happen on the interstate.

Bexar County Sheriff's deputy Candice Rodriguez talked about getting hit by a car while she was trying to help someone stranded on I-35.

“I stopped to check on the driver and walked him to the center median. Right after I got into my car to call police, my car was hit by a drunk driver. As a result, I suffered a broken leg, a spinal fracture to my right leg and tore several ligaments in my left knee,” she said.

AAA said that if you have to get out of your car on the interstate, be aware of your surroundings. Turn your hazards on, and have safety gear, like flares, on hand.
