A massive fire ripped thorough a lumber yard in Warwick Thursday evening. Flames broke out at Mid-State Lumber around 5 p.m. and as Briggette Sayegh explains, took hours for firefighters to get the scene under control.

WARWICK, N.Y. --  A massive fire broke out at mid state lumber yard in Warwick on Thursday.

Smoke and flames engulfed the entire area for hours as crews from 20 fire departments worked to contain the flames.

“They have several master pipe aerial operation to extinguish the fire," said Orange County Fire Coordinator Vini Tankasali.

Because it was a non-hydrant area, crews were relying solely on water tanks for their supply. The main building as well surrounding structures were destroyed .

Crews also had problems with the fire spreading, to all the lumber yard's inventory.

"Everything's compressed its gonna take time and equipment and manpower to actually pull at the equipment  apart to get to all the fire that's burning throughout," said Tankasali.

Dozens of first responders were on the scene, as well as O & R who cut the natural gas line that was leaking in the lumber yard.

According to the lumber’s website, this yard as well as along with one in New Jersey and another in Pennsylvania serves the entire northeast.

There's no word on when Mid-State will be able to reopen, or how much they've lost in the flames.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, so far fire officials do not have any leads.

Officials say one firefighter has been treated for minor injuries.
