WEST POINT, N.Y. -- Army Athletics has dropped the old logo in favor of a new look and new name.

They will now be referred to as Army West Point, and don the Athena Shield.

The shield is an iconic and unique symbol of Army West Point Athletics.

The Athena Shield is made up of four different elements, each of which represent the athletics program with power and authenticity.

The Helmet, Sword, Star and the Classic A all represent times and symbols of the Army's past.

All 28 of West Point's collegiate sports teams will showcase consistent logos, colors, lettering and numerals, symbolizing the rich history of the Army.

The announcement is the result of an 18 month collaboration with Nike to create a new look for the program.

The team has had the Black Knights nickname since 1999.
