ALBANY, N.Y. – Senator Charles Schumer will pay a visit to the University of Albany Monday.
The Senator is calling on his counterparts in the Senate to renew a federal student loan program he says roughly half a million college students depend on.
The Federal Perkins Loan program, which expired on Sept. 30, provides low-interest loans to students who cannot afford higher-interest private loans.
The House of Representatives already approved an extension.
Schumer says it’s time for his Republican colleagues to do the same.
Schumer will be joined by University of Albany President Dr. Robert Jones and students at University Hall at 1:15 p.m.
