Police had arrived at the residence on that date around 9:44 a.m. to perform a welfare check on the family after receiving a call from Mayer’s mother, saying she had not heard from the family and asking police to check on them. They found two dead bodies in separate areas of the house, which had been covered with a blanket, according to a criminal complaint. Each had at least one gunshot wound.

A criminal complaint says that police believe Nikita Casap killed his mother and stepfather on Feb. 11, a total of 17 days before police found them.

After the deaths, Nikita Casap stopped attending school at Waukesha West High School. When his stepfather wasn’t showing up to work, his manager sent texts. Police say Nikita Casap responded to those texts “presumably” as Mayer, saying he was sick.

On the same day police found the bodies in the home on Feb. 28, Nikita Casap was arrested and taken into custody following a traffic stop in WaKeeney, Kansas around 11:25 p.m. Police said Nikita Casap was driving Mayer’s car and that they found $14,000 of cash and another $14,000 worth of jewelry inside.

On March 12, Nikita Casap was formally charged with several offenses, including operating a motor vehicle without owner’s consent and theft. Reports indicate that he was in custody at the time.

Now, new criminal charges have been brought forth against Nikita Casap after new evidence and findings, police said.

Those charges include:

  • Two counts of 1st Degree Intentional Homicide
  • Two counts of Hiding a Corpse
  • Theft of Property Over $10,000
  • Two counts of Misappropriating ID to Obtain Money
