1. Milwaukee County leaders create action plan following ICE courthouse arrests

The group said it is coming together to address places such as schools, courthouses, hospitals and churches are deemed “safe spaces,” and should remain that way.

2. International students at UW-Madison have visas terminated amid nationwide crackdown at colleges

UW-Madison said as of Monday, April 7, visas were terminated by the U.S. government for six current students and seven alumni who were on employment extensions. Officials said the university played no role in the terminations and that while it’s not an uncommon thing to happen, it’s been seeing an elevated “volume and frequency” of them in the past week. These terminations typically mean that thoses individuals should "depart the United States immediately."

3. Homicides rose in the first quarter of 2025, MPD data shows

The number of homicides at this time last year was 23, compared to 25 in 2025, a 9% increase. However, homicides are still down 36% from 2023. It comes as a 6-year-old was killed in Milwaukee last Tuesday, April 1 due to what police say was “negligent” handling of a firearm.

4. Supreme Court blocks order requiring Trump administration to reinstate thousands of federal workers

The Supreme Court on Tuesday blocked an order for the Trump administration to return to work thousands of federal employees who were let go in mass firings aimed at dramatically downsizing the federal government.

5. Keystone oil pipeline shut down after rupture in rural North Dakota

The Keystone oil pipeline ruptured Tuesday morning in North Dakota, with the spill confined to an agricultural field. The cause of the rupture and the volume of crude oil spilled were not immediately unclear.

Barn quilt square highlights Shawano at the 2025 NFL Draft

A little bit of Shawano will be featured at the 2025 NFL Draft in Green Bay this month.

Michelle Eron and Jim Leuenberger spent the last several weeks creating two identical NFL-themed barn quilt squares. One of the squares will be displayed at the NFL Draft Experience, the other will be inside the Shawano Country Chamber of Commerce.
