MILWAUKEE — A Milwaukee police officer was arrested, the Milwaukee Police Department (MPD) said Friday. A federal criminal complaint identified the officer as Juwon Madlock.

  • According to a criminal complaint, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) was investigating an alleged member of a "violent street gang in Milwaukee" known as the Burleigh Zoo Family (BZF)

  • When they reviewed that person's devices, messages were found between them and MPD officer Juwon Madlock

  • Madlock has since been arrested after the "significant allegations of criminal misconduct" were made

  • He has since resigned from the police department

MPD said there were “significant allegations of criminal misconduct” against Madlock. A federal criminal complaint accuses Madlock of "misprision, transferring ammunition to a felon, possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of a machinegun, lying to federal agents, obstruction and sale or receipt of stolen goods." 

According to a criminal complaint, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) was investigating an alleged member of a "violent street gang in Milwaukee" known as the Burleigh Zoo Family (BZF). When they reviewed that person's devices, messages were found between him and Madlock. According to the complaint, discussions included, but were not limited to: 

  • Who "might be cooperating with law enforcement"
  • Federal agents' involvement "in certain investigations"
  • Madlock offering to provide ammunition, firearms and "addresses associated with suspected rivals of ... BZF"
  • "Fake identification cards and fraudulent license plates"
  • "Sale of stolen vehicles"
  • Madlock disclosing who in MPD was "engaged in various enforcement actions"

MPD’s Internal Affairs Division (IAD) and FBI investigated the case. IAD arrested Madlock on March 12.

Madlock has since resigned from MPD. He had been with the department for 10 years.

The FBI is leading the ongoing, open investigation. MPD said it is cooperating.
