PULASKI, Wis. – Wisconsin families will begin receiving child tax credit payments beginning July 15 as part of President Joe Biden’s coronavirus relief package.

Stacey Burkhart is a mother of three living in Pulaski, just outside of Green Bay. She said the last fifteen months have been difficult.

“The pandemic affected everybody,” she said. “But for parents of small children, being at home full-time, working at home, figuring out how it was we’re were going to raise our children, really concerning ourselves with our children falling behind in school.”

She said the stress of the pandemic has added up over time. Now, she’s looking forward to some help from in the form of the Child Tax Credit payments included in the American Rescue Plan.

For Burkhart and other Wisconsin parents, the American Rescue Plan increased the Child Tax Credit from $2,000 per child to $3,000 per child for children over the age of six and from $2,000 to $3,600 for children under the age of six and raised the age limit from 16 to 17.

All working families will get the full credit if they make up to $150,000 for a couple or $112,500 for a family with a single parent (also called Head of Household).

Parents will begin receiving the payments July 15 and continue until December.

“All of this just helps ease that burden, and it helps these parents just feel more complete in their ability to be a parent,” Burkhart says.

The White House created a website with more information on the plan.
