After a rather quiet and snow-free start to winter, rounds of potentially measurable snow and bitter cold look to affect the Badger State in the week ahead.
December is typically a pretty snowy month in Wisconsin.
That was not the case this year with very little measurable snowfall.
Before this week’s rounds of winter weather, many across the state recorded their biggest snowfall of the season months prior.
The week ahead brings several chances for significant snowfall.
After some recorded minor accumulations over the past weekend, Tuesday brought our first true winter storm of the season.
Many woke up Wednesday to several inches of snow on the ground, with the highest totals in southern and eastern Wisconsin.
Tuesday brought the most impactful winter weather of the season so far, but there is more in store as the week moves on.
After a brief break during the day Wednesday, snow showers look to return to the forecast last Wednesday into early Thursday.
Some in southern Wisconsin could see minor accumulations.
We will enjoy another quick break from the snow Thursday, but even more impactful winter weather lies ahead as we head into the weekend.
We will watch Friday into Saturday for yet another winter storm system set to hit Wisconsin.
Many statewide will receive even more measurable snowfall late Friday into early Saturday.
After enduring several rounds of snow, then comes the bitter cold.
Once the winter storm system exits the state late Saturday, frigid air moves in.
The early days of winter have been rather mild, with many seeing high temperatures steadily in the 30s and even 40s.
By Sunday, temperatures will plummet, with many only reaching the teens and single digits for high temperatures.
North and western areas will see sub-zero morning low temperatures with wind chills in the negative teens and 20s.
Though many may have wondered where our Wisconsin winter has been, the season will be picking up in full force in the days ahead!
