LIBERTY HILL, Texas — The proud tradition of Liberty Hill football was firmly set when the program won their first and only state titles back in 2006 and 2007.

  • Liberty Hill Panthers headed to state championship
  • They play La Vega on Friday
  • Last won title game in 2007

Current head coach Jeff Walker was an assistant coach on those teams and he sees the similarities between them and the 2018 squad.

“We still do pretty much everything the same from A to Z as we did in ’06 and ’07,” he said. “It hasn’t changed much”

Many of the players on this 2018 team, remember those title runs from when they were young, but this season is about them and leaving their own legacy.

“Everybody dreams of being that state champion from ’06 and ’07,” Mason Ogle, a linebacker for Liberty Hill said. “I’ve been dreaming of it for a long time and now my senior year, I couldn’t ask for anything else.”

On Friday afternoon the Panthers will once again be in the title game. They’ll meet former district rival, La Vega, the same team that knocked Liberty Hill out of the playoffs last year.

“I’m predicting a win against La Vega, we’re going to finish the job,” senior running back Kyle Harrison said. “We came this far and we’re not going to lay down and let La Vega beat us.”
