Reuben Jones is an Emmy-winning multimedia journalist for Spectrum News in Washington, D.C. He covers Congress, the White House, politics and other news for Spectrum News 1 North Carolina and Spectrum News viewers across the country.
Reuben is a Virginia native who has a passion for telling in-depth stories on under-covered issues affecting our audience. He earned a BA in American Government at George Mason University and a master’s degree in Journalism at New York University. During his time in New York City, Reuben held internships at 60 Minutes and Spectrum News NY1.
He began his professional reporting career in Rockford, Illinois as a reporter and weekend anchor before joining Spectrum News in Charlotte, North Carolina. In 2019, he won an Emmy award for his reporting on the impact of untested police rape kits. He has also received Emmy nominations for stories on missing and murdered Native Americans, labor trafficking, and the impact of a deadly tornado.
In Washington, Reuben focuses on the North Carolina congressional delegation and political campaigns in the state. On election nights you can find him in North Carolina analyzing results in the Spectrum News studios. He is fill-in host on Spectrum News' Capital Tonight in North Carolina and is a regular contributor on North Carolina radio stations providing updates from Washington.
Reuben has also traveled to Maine, covering the effects of climate change, and to Pennsylvania, reporting on the harmful impact of Indian Boarding Schools. He also traveled to South Florida to report on former President Donald Trump's criminal case there.
Reuben is a mentor for Report for America and the NYU Journalism program. When he's not at work, you can find Reuben playing tennis, trying new restaurants, and rooting on his favorite college basketball teams -- go UVA ‘Hoos and George Mason Patriots!
