Rodney Harrison, the NYPD's chief of department, is retiring at the end of the year.
Harrison, who is currently the highest ranking uniformed officer, is stepping down on Dec. 30.
He was promoted to chief of department earlier this year when his predecessor Terence Monahan retired.
Harrison began his career 30 years ago as a cadet.
Since then, he has served in numerous roles, including chief of patrol and the first Black chief of detectives.
There is no word yet on who will replace him.
Mayor-elect Eric Adams is also expected to announce his choice for police commissioner in the coming days.
