Hailing from Maine's 117th District, State Representative Matt Moonen was inspired to run for office by the Massachusetts Supreme Court's 2003 decision in favor of marriage equality. As a young gay man finding his place in the world, he was amazed to see how legislative change could change lives.

His favorite part of his job is meeting people from all over the state, whether elected officials or constituents, who take the time to discuss the issues that matter to them. One thing Moonen would say his district does better than anywhere else is breakfast, with several standout spots in the area.

Moonen would take an out-of-town visitor to the Western Promenade, a beautiful park that hosts concerts in the summer. If he could travel anywhere in the world, he would choose Venice, Italy, where he once studied abroad.
